The essence of my being
Is superficial at best
Barely registering on the Richter scale
Of mindfulness.

When I do delve a bit deeper
I am surprised at the artifice,
And disappointed at my shallowness~
While, at the same time recognizing that one can………….

drown in a puddle.

  1. I really don’t think you’re that superficial at all LouAnn – and your poetry confirms my view..

    • thank you Mimi–I think the first step to not being superficial is to recognize it–deep, eh?

  2. Really gives one pause; always good to do a mirror check once in awhile. Thank you!

  3. I agree with Mimi. This poem shows exactly how un-shallow you are. Humble seems like a good word.

  4. While we are often aware of our own ‘shallowness’ I think we are .. as you are too hard on ourselves… Others don’t see us the same way.. Diane
