A Blogcation

James Taylor at Christmas

Wikipedia

Just a little heads up:

I am taking a week off from blogging to concentrate on a number of things that need my attention–so while I will be responding to commenters today–I will not be seen or heard from much until December 1st. Enjoy this last week of November and see you back here next Saturday.

Note: Make a note in your calendar to come to my virtual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 15th.

Here is my Formal Invitation:

Virtual Christmas Party

Date: December 15th

Where: Virtually Here

Why: It Is Christmas!

Theme: Come as your favourite author or character in a book.

Co-host: Robin Coyle (she does not know this yet)

Bring: Your favourite appetizer from the 1970’s

Music Provided by: James Taylor and Rodents & Rebels

Special Entertainment: Margaret Atwood. She promises to be festive.

Requirement: Description of your author or character’s outfit, appetizer, and favourite song request from either James or R & R.

I will provide an update closer to the 15th. Idea stolen from Robin Coyle who threw a virtual Cocktail Party that was a raving success. You can wear your shoes in the house if they are clean. Reindeer socks will be provided at the door for those who need them.

See you in a little less than a week!

  1. I love the idea of a party! Have a good week off.

  2. Don’t put the pressure on yourself to blog everyday. No one expects that of you. Just blog for the fun of it every now and again. enjoy your week off, but don’t feel you must blog, you should only do it when the feeling takes you

  3. I will miss you, hope to see you soon. The party sounds like a lot of fun.

  4. Can’t wait for the party! I should have recovered from Robin’s by then. I may put on an impromptu performance of some kind on the night if that’s ok? Well, I’m asking if it’s ok, but to be honest there’ll be no stopping me if the mood takes me!

    • cannot wait–can I add it to the festivities?

      • Ooh yes! What would you like? I could do a bit of stand-up (I actually really did do some stand-up twice this year, in pubs in London, had never done it before, absolutely terrifying, but I did it!). Or I could do a little singing number with my partner on guitar.

      • how about both – I wanted to be a stand up comedian but cannot talk in front of people, so that kind of ruined that — singing would be good as long as you do not do any Jame Taylor or Led Zepplin

      • I don’t know if this comment is going to appear above or below your last comment because I couldn’t reply directly to it, but both! Ok! So should I record them onto YouTube, and then put the links in my comment when I comment on your party post?

      • absolutely – boy this is exciting – can’t wait now

    • I believe you promised pole dancing and tassels. Am I not correct?

      • Ah…yes…about that – I’m thinking that it would be better if I keep my performance more suitable for a family audience, you know?

      • Hey, you brought it up, lady. Now you dash my hopes?

      • Robin, Robin,Robin,….

      • Well . . . that Vanessa is one heck of a pole dancer.

      • ha ha ha

  5. Hi Lou Ann!
See you in a week. Hope you get what you want done.
Would love to attend your virtual partay! This will be my first ever & I can’t wait. Hmmmm…I wonder what I’ll wear. I don’t have a favorite author – will have to think of a character…
    Have a great week!

  6. guitars with the others and must have crackers and tinsel..;)

  7. Whaaaaaa? You are leaving us? Well, ok. I know you need time to prep for the cocktail party.

I shall bring deviled eggs and a jello mold.

Enjoy your break! We will be here when you get back.

    • Love your choices–I will still be lurking

      • “On the Homefront and Stalking” is the new name of your blog?

      • that is what I was going to come back as when I return next Saturday–now the surprise element is gone–oh well

  8. Love love this! Enjoy a cosy week and enjoy the break. Will be thinking of you and looking forward to when you’re back. Big love X

  15. Enjoy the week off. i think I need to do that some time soon. 🙂

    • sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do–but once they are done–we are golden

  16. 1970’s??? like Spam or Cheese Whiz?
James Taylor? I have to google the other band and wear ear plugs for Taylor.
Great idea.. and I like that you threw Robin under the bus on the co-hosting job.
    Enjoy your break.

    • or fondue or shrimp or lipton soup onion dip–ha ha–no Spam though
the other band is my son’s–and you may soon be able to find them on google
I will have the entertainment in their own space so you can avoid James if you need to

      • haa on the James. It is ok.. just poke me so I stay awake ;0) and I look forward to hearing your boy’s band. What style of music?

      • they do covers like Led Zepplin but also their own material – loud hard rock mostly so that will keep you awake

  17. ps I’ll miss you as you have become my early morning visiting partner 🙂

    • I know–you are always at the top of my list too– I will still be visiting if I can work it in

  18. Seems like lots of bloggers are taking some time off around this time! But I’m not surprised, given the season and impending holidays. Great idea to throw a party! I’ll make sure my shoes are extra clean before I come in. 😉

  19. I have never attended a virtual party – I’m a bit nervous!

  20. Enjoy your break honey 🙂

    Xx

  21. Have a marvelous break. I’ll be taking a break in December–family and fun time. Love the idea of the party. I will have to put my thinking cap on.

    • Thanks TBM — we will have to do our Friday mystery pic if I can work it in

  22. Oh No! I’ve got a party clash – an actual face-to-face party and now yours. Hopefully, I can make both. I’m definitely wearing muddy walking boots to yours though

  23. I can’t believe you are asking for time off! The cheekiness! Whatever happened to the work ethic! 🙂 seriously I can’t wait for your party. Will you send out a reminder?

    • I am taking the time off to do some unpleasant work ethic things (ugh) — which are much more unpleasant than writing — though I do have a bit of that to do for my job
-glad you are coming to the party

  24. Cool idea! Enjoy your little break.

  25. Breaks from blogging are good …. and contrary to what we think, readers understand. Meanwhile, love the party it and thanks for the invite!

  26. Have a good week off. Consider this my RSVP. Margaret Atwood can be festive? This I have to see.

  27. So that pic is Margaret Atwood? I thought it might be you! (I have NO idea what you look like…have you posted a pic of yourself?) Enjoy your blogging break, LouAnn. I hope your creative fields can lie fallow to be rejuvenated once again!

    • someday I will post a pic–I do not really know how to do it–need some help from my son who is away at school —

      • Well, in case I accidentally miss it, let me know, OK?

      • I will email you special — I am kind of cute in an “old” way–ha ha ha ha ha

      • Oh wonderful! I shall be awaiting it!

  28. Count me in and enjoy your time off!

  29. Woo hoo! I LOVE a party 😉

    Have a great time off!

  30. Enjoy your break! Your party sounds rad!

  31. Sounds like fun and intriguing, looking forward to your return. Blessings, Patty

  32. Oh, I’d love to come! Looking forward to seeing you then! ~ Sheila

  33. It’s so nice of you to throw a party for my birthday! I do have two other engagements that day, but will be sending Woody Allen in my place. He will likely need to borrow a pair of your reindeer socks and he may also need lessons on how to play reindeer games. If he gets a bit neurotic, just smack him around a bit. He seems to respond well to this sort of treatment.

    • not a big fan of Mr. Neurotic since he married his step-daughter–rather have you make a cameo

      • Yes. I had quite a problem with Woody at that time too. His books, however, remain among some of my favourites. If anything, he will give your other guests someone to look down on with disdain. Some of the 19th century authors may appreciate this.

      • ha ha

  34. I am RSVP’ing even though I’m not sure if I’ll be able to come to the party b/c I may still be in a post-surgical haze, but I’ll be there in spirit. You’ll know me by my flapper outfit and the snazzy shoes! xo

    • so hope you can make it–we will drink a toast to you

      • Whoopee! Thank you! You know I’m there in spirit ~ with spirits! 🙂

      • my prayers are with you–if that is appropritate — if not you will be in my thoughts–
